They'll Suck the Life Right Out of You!

I want to talk about something many of us have experienced, and if you haven’t experienced it, you’re either very lucky, or you could be it. What I am talking about you may know as psychic vampires. They can be called other things as well. If you aren’t a spiritual person, you may just know this as someone jealous or narcissistic behavior, or just know them as an overly negative person. These are the people who “prey on your downfall.” We must recognize these people in our lives and stop giving them access because they always hope for something bad to happen to you. They find joy in your struggle.
Some traits you should look out for are:
Jealousy and competitiveness; they may try to undermine your success or show signs of jealousy when something good happens to you. Alternatively, if you had something “bad” happen to you, they may bring up something “worse” that happened to them. (This is not to be confused with neurodivergent people who may share similar stories to empathize.) This will explicitly be in a “This much worse thing happened to me, feel bad for me” way.
Attention Seeking; they will always try to bring the subject back to themselves. They have a constant need to have all eyes on them and will go out of their way to make sure the attention falls on them.
Overreaction: Even minor inconveniences will elicit grand reactions from them. This is usually part of attention-seeking as it draws attention to them.
Lack of Empathy: When things happen to you, they may not show care or empathy, or they may be dismissive of your feelings.
Drama: These people usually always have some emotional turmoil or drama going on in their lives.
Emotional Manipulation: They may try to guilt trip you, and have a victim mentality (everything bad always happens to them even though they often purposefully create these situations themselves). They may exaggerate their problems to gain sympathy.
Draining energy: This may be the most important one because our bodies always know when something is up, and this is usually the first and most common symptom. After spending time with this person or being around this person for some time, you may feel exhausted, physically, or emotionally drained.
These people can suck the fun out of any situation. They often prey on those who are emotionally vulnerable, have poor boundaries, or are just “too nice.” They generally go after those who seem like easy targets. Close relationships are usually formed with their targets as they maintain the connection to feed off of their energy. Now, some people do this and don’t even recognize that they are doing it. Whether it is created by traumatic situations or something else, they don’t see the behaviors as problematic; they just are. Others do this completely intentionally, intending to harm or gain something from their targets. You often can recognize the difference if you take a step back from the situation. Both groups may even attempt to change their behaviors if they are being called out on it. You can tell the difference if it gets to that point because intuition never lies.
All of these traits overlap with many different mental health issues, but that doesn’t change the fact that it can be so exhausting for the targeted individual(s). As always, use your intuition and discernment in any situation. Take care to move away from these people because they will hold you back, they will lower your vibration, and drain the life out of you. Protect yourself, take care of yourself, and trust yourself.
